Chrome for Android

Download Google Chrome for Android

Get Google Chrome for your Android phone or tablet. Chrome syncs your bookmarks, passwords, history, and open tabs across every device you sign in on, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS.

System Requirements for Android

  • OS: Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later
  • RAM: 2 GB minimum, 4 GB or more for heavy multitab use
  • Storage: 200 MB for the app, more for downloads and cache

Chrome Is Already Installed on Most Androids

Almost every Android phone sold with Google Mobile Services ships with Chrome preinstalled as the default browser. Pixel, Samsung Galaxy (alongside Samsung Internet), Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and most other brands include it out of the box. Open the Play Store link above to confirm Chrome is installed and up to date.

Phones Without the Play Store

Newer Huawei and Honor devices ship without Google Mobile Services and cannot use the Play Store. You can sideload Chrome by downloading the APK from a trusted mirror such as APKMirror, then opening the file from the Files app and allowing installation from that source. Sideloaded Chrome will still run, but Sync and other Google services may be limited without Google Play Services on the device.

How to Install Chrome from the Play Store

  1. Tap the Play Store button above (or open the Play Store and search for Chrome)
  2. Tap Install. If Chrome is already installed it will say Update or Open.
  3. Wait for the download, then tap Open
  4. Sign in with your Google account when prompted to enable Sync

Set Chrome as the Default Browser

  1. Open Settings on your Android device
  2. Tap Apps, then Default apps (the wording varies slightly by Android skin)
  3. Tap Browser app and select Chrome

Links you tap in other apps will then open in Chrome.

Beta, Dev, and Canary on Android

Each pre-release channel is a separate app on the Play Store, so you can install Beta or Canary alongside the regular Stable build:

  • Chrome Beta: About one version ahead of Stable
  • Chrome Dev: Two versions ahead
  • Chrome Canary: Nightly, often broken

Search the Play Store for “Chrome Beta”, “Chrome Dev”, or “Chrome Canary” to install them.

Chrome Features on Android

  • Sync: Bookmarks, passwords, history, and open tabs across all your devices
  • Data Saver / Lite mode: Cut data usage on slow or metered connections
  • Incognito Mode: Browse without saving history, with optional fingerprint or face unlock to reopen tabs
  • Voice search: Tap the microphone in the address bar
  • Translate: One-tap page translation in 100+ languages
  • Add to Home screen: Save any site as a Progressive Web App icon
  • Tab groups: Long-press a tab to group related pages together

Update Chrome on Android

Chrome updates through the Play Store automatically. To force a check, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Manage apps & device > Updates available, and update Chrome from the list. See our update guide for full instructions.

Chrome vs Samsung Internet

Samsung Galaxy phones come with Samsung Internet preinstalled. Both browsers are based on the same Chromium engine, so site rendering is similar. Chrome’s advantage is the Google account ecosystem: passwords from your laptop, history from your iPad, autofill from your Android. You can absolutely keep both installed and use them for different purposes.

Uninstall or Disable

On phones where Chrome is preinstalled as a system app, the Play Store only offers Disable, not uninstall. Disabling hides Chrome and stops it from running. Phones where you installed Chrome yourself will offer a normal Uninstall.
